The discussion was held with officials from the Serb-majority municipalities of Gracanica, Ranilug and Partes on advancing social media for better public outreach and transparency. The aim of the event was to increase the communication between citizens and local authorities in minority communities.The attendees were employees of the Office of Information, IT Managers and employees working in administration.

The discussion focused on the importance of social media as a medium for increased interaction between local authorities and citizens, and as a platform for citizen’s empowerment to fight corruption and report different issues of concern related to public service. The subjects discussed included the history of the social media, new approaches through user friendly web-based and mobile platforms, and use of multimedia.

It was concluded during the discussion that further use and enhancement of social media could bolster the efficiency and response of the municipalities towards citizens’ concerns. The discussion was held as part of the project ‘Support Anti-Corruption Efforts in Kosovo (SAEK)’ in collaboration with UNDP and funded by Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (CDC).
