Internews Kosova holds training session with students of Gjilan on fact-checking and disinformation
On March 25, 2024 Internews Kosova held a training session with students of University of Gjilan “Kadri Zeka”, who were introduced with the narratives of disinformation and the process of fact-checking.
This training session was held as a part of the project “Strengthening the integrity of the media: Promoting Fact-Checking and combating disinformation in Kosovo”, financed by the European Union, CFI (Media Development Agency).
More specifically, in the first part of the session, the speaker, Dorentina Kastrati – Editor at KALLXO.com explained the historical context of disinformation, media ethics and the criteria that helps identify credible and professional media outlets. In addition, Kastrati presented the findings of the report “The Story of our Lies”, which highlight the influence of disinformation from Russia and China in Kosovo.
Whereas, in the second part of this session she covered the methodologies and the process of fact-checking by presenting fact-checking tools such as Krypometer (Truth-o-meter), the fact-checking platform of KALLXO.com.
This training was attended by 21 students of which 11 were women, who engaged in the training by asking questions on fact-checking, and shared their experience in dealing with fake news and disinformation on a daily basis. Present in this meeting were also Mr. Sadik Haxhiu – Pro Rector of the University as well as Mr. Flamur Maloku and Mr. Mensur Neziri – Professors at the University of Gjilan “Kadri Zeka”.
