Internews Kosova conducted a training session with 18 pupils from the ‘Remzi Ademaj’ Gymnasium in Prizren from November 16 to 17, as part of a project aiming to train talented students in the field of investigative journalism.

The two-day training was divided into four sessions, sharing information on the core principles of journalism, writing skills, television journalism, research and journalistic ethics.

The training and study visit took place at the KALLXO.com offices, where students closely observed the daily working process of a media editorial office.

Through an interactive training session, Kreshnik Gashi, the editor-in-chief of KALLXO.com and author of the show ‘Drejtesia në Kosove,’ shared his experiences with the students, providing information on the core principles and techniques used by various media platforms in journalism.

During the second day of the training session, Gashi’s discussion with the students moved to the topics they could tackle and the media products they could utilise that would be of particular interest to their generation, including the KALLXO Youth platform, a column that will be used to publish articles written by participants in the trainings.

Valdet Salihu, a producer at KALLXO.com and ‘Drejtesia në Kosove,’ explored the technical side of media production with the students, and the way that audiovisual equipment is used in journalistic production.

Students also learned about the legal framework surrounding the functioning of the media.

Labinot Leposhtica, coordinator of the legal office at KALLXO.com, informed the participants about the institutions and bodies that regulate the way the media operates, as well as the Law on Defamation.

Leposhtica then discussed professionalism and journalistic ethics with the pupils, ensuring that they will both understand and adhere to these principles beyond the scope of the training sessions.

During the training session, students participated in activities preparing them for working in the field of journalism, from practicing their writing skills to conducting short interviews.

The participants were all awarded with certificates following the conclusion of the training session. Some participants will continue their cooperation with KALLXO.com through the publication of their work on the KALLXO Youth platform, under the guidance of the KALLXO.com editorial team.

The trainings are being conducted across five municipalities in Kosovo: Prizren, Ferizaj, South Mitrovica, Gjilan and Prishtina.

This project is supported by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and implemented by Internews Kosova.
