On April 30, 2024, Internews Kosova held a training session with students of the University of Priizren ‘Ukshin Hoti’, in Prizren, on disinformation and fact-checking.

This training was held as part of the project “Strengthening the integrity of the media: Promoting Fact-Checking and combating disinformation in Kosovo”, financed by the European Union, CFI (Media Development Agency) and implemented by Internews Kosova.

In the first part of the training, Kreshnik Gashi – Managing editor at Kallxo.com spoke chronologically about how disinformation has flowed since the early times of history and how disinformation was used to gain power and authority towards another group of people. Afterward, with concrete examples from individual professional experience as well as from Kallxo.com, Gashi spoke in detail about the external influences on our society, addressing so the disinformation coming from other countries in Kosovo and the ease with which the Kosovar society has received and used them without fact-checking that information.

Furthermore, Gashi highlighted the need for fact-checking as a principal tool in fighting disinformation. Kryptometer at kallxo.com is a direct example of which news is fact-checked on truth and those that are false are marked depending on the scale of that lie.

This training was attended by 32 students, out of which 26 were women. The attending students in this training session were interested especially in the fact-checking field, monitoring the law institutions and groups’ attacks related to the Banjska attack.
